Saint Michael the Archangel High School

College Counseling

The guidance counseling program at Saint Michael exists to support our students in two, primary areas: first, as they make their journey through high school into adulthood; and, second, as they transition from high school to post-secondary education or the workforce.  Our focus is on maximizing students’ intellectual, as well as spiritual, physical and emotional, facilities, ultimately to prepare them to become productive members of society.

A core component of the SMHS counseling program focuses on assisting students with the exploration, research, and selection of post-secondary educational opportunities at two- and four-year colleges and universities, or career development for those who choose not to pursue a college education immediately after high school.  In all cases, the administration and faculty who comprise the guidance team take an active role in this process, beginning in the students’ freshman year, by holding periodic meetings and/or career events to address the various options available to students upon their graduation from Saint Michael.  Additionally, guidance members work with students to prepare them for standarized testing (PSAT/NMSQ, SAT, ACT, ASVAB), and to map out college and/or career options.
