Science
Physical Science with Earth Science
This course integrates the principles of Physical Science such as motion, forces, energy, matter and machines with elements of Earth Science such as geology, weather, climate, and astronomy. It includes an examination of science and technology, introductory chemistry and the interactions of matter.
Biology
Students will make a comprehensive study of the fundamental principles of biological processes, including cellular biology, genetics and molecular biology, a survey of the six kingdoms of organisms, the anatomy and physiology of plants and animals, ecology, and the hypothesis of evolution. Students will take part in labs.
Chemistry
This course is a study of the chemical principles that underlie energy and matter. Topics
covered include atomic structure, bonding, stoichiometry, gas laws, thermodynamics, kinetics, acid-base, equilibrium, and oxidation-reduction. Laboratory required.
Physics
Physics is a college-prep course that is designed for the student who has completed algebra and has had an introduction to the definitions of sine, cosine, and tangent. It provides a detailed introduction to the methods and concepts of general physics. Heavily emphasizing vector analysis, it provides the student with a strong background in one-dimensional and two-dimensional motion, Newton’s laws and their application, gravity, work and energy, momentum, periodic motion, waves, optics, electrostatics, electrodynamics, electrical circuits, and magnetism.
Environmental Science
This course covers a broad range of topics, including human interaction with the environment, conservation, pollution, resource management, and many others. The beginning of the course touches requisite science topics such as geology, chemistry, physics, and thermodynamics. Labs will be incorporated into the class throughout the year, and one paper is required per semester. This course includes preparation for students wishing to sit for the AP Environmental Science exam in May.
Anatomy and Physiology
Throughout Human Anatomy & Physiology, students develop skills for scientific inquiry including the ability to design, safely conduct, evaluate, and summarize the results of scientific investigations; utilize technology to collect, analyze and communicate data and results; review evidence, draw logical conclusions, and communicate and defend results as well as defend life from a natural beginning to natural end. The student learns that the human body is a collection of interrelated systems; and the body is a temple of the Holy Spirit; they learn the anatomical structure is directly related to function, and the homeostatic mechanisms maintain the processes of life. The students also begin to see that there are connections and interactions among technology, science and society, as well as a Culture of Life.
Science and technology are the results of the Creator, the order He created, human activity throughout history and includes many examples in History including Theology of the Body, Veritatis Splendor (1993 Encyclical letter by Pope John Paul II), Evangelium vitae, (1995, Encyclical letter by Pope John Paul II).

The mission of Saint Michael the Archangel High School is to prepare each student to lead an exemplary Christian life through the development of his or her full academic, spiritual, moral, artistic, and athletic potential.
