This is a foundation course that provides the student with fundamental information to appreciate theater, understand its role in society, and the opportunity to learn basic acting techniques. The course covers the major developments in theater from the ancient Greeks to the present. Students analyze the role of theater in cultural and sociological contexts of various peoples and eras. Scenes from selected plays with a variety of styles will give students an opportunity to stretch their acting skills, while learning to appreciate the development of theater.
